Town Centre Drinking Ban
Bournemouth Town Centre will soon be a safer and friendlier place to visit with an improved night time economy. It has been agreed by Bournemouth Borough Council to introduce a "Town Centre Wide Designated Public Place Order" (DPPO). The Order tackles drink related anti-social behaviour and will give the Police powers to seize alcohol in these circumstances. Those who fail to comply will be liable to arrest and a fine of up to £500. This Order is being introduced following full public consultation and support.

Previously, there had been a confusing mix of Designated Public Place Orders scattered around the Town Centre, which made enforcement difficult. By covering the whole Town Centre, the new Order will make the life of local police easier and nights out in Bournemouth much safer and more enjoyable.

Councillor David Smith, one of the Conservative Councillors for the Town Centre, is delighted. He says "After working closely with the police for many months on this initiative, I am pleased that a ban on anti-social drinking in the whole of the Town Centre is now being put in place. This will enable the police to deal more firmly with people who persist in blighting the community by drinking and engaging in anti-social behaviour"

The order has received widespread public support and will be an additional tool in the police's proactive stance in tackling anti-social behaviour and disorder in the town centre.
